Turok: ORIGINS (2026)

Turok: Origins (2026) is a modern reboot of the classic dinosaur-hunting franchise, reimagining the series as a large-scale sci-fi action shooter with co-op gameplay, class-based combat, and a heavier focus on lore expansion. Developed by Saber Interactive, the game aims to revive the core identity of Turok while also reworking it for contemporary audiences who expect cooperative systems, progression mechanics, and cinematic presentation.

At its core, the story of Turok: Origins takes place in the “Lost Lands,” a prehistoric and alien-influenced world where humanity is fighting for survival against both dinosaurs and a hostile extraterrestrial force known as the Xenia. Rather than focusing on a single protagonist, the game introduces the idea of the “Order of the Turok,” a group of warriors chosen to protect humanity using advanced weaponry and inherited powers. This shift transforms the franchise from a lone hunter narrative into a broader mythological conflict involving multiple characters and factions.

One of the most defining changes in Origins is its dual perspective gameplay. Players can switch between first-person and third-person modes at any time, which changes the feel of combat significantly. First-person emphasizes precision shooting and immersion, while third-person highlights movement, abilities, and cinematic action. This hybrid approach reflects the game’s attempt to bridge classic Turok gameplay with modern co-op shooter design.

The combat system is built around class roles inspired by spirit animals: Raven, Cougar, and Bison. Each class offers a different playstyle, from ranged precision and bow-based combat to aggressive mid-range gunfights and close-quarters shotgun damage. This structure pushes the game closer to a hero-shooter format, where team composition and ability usage matter as much as raw shooting skill. Each class also features unique ultimate abilities, encouraging tactical coordination in both solo and cooperative play.

A major gameplay feature is the DNA upgrade system. Players can absorb genetic material from defeated enemies and use it to enhance their weapons and abilities. This system not only provides progression but also reinforces the franchise’s identity of fighting prehistoric and mutated creatures. It adds a layer of customization that allows players to evolve their combat style over time, depending on how they engage with enemies.
