The original film already stood out for its powerful performances, especially by Viola Davis, and its focus on the Agojie warriors of the Kingdom of Dahomey. A sequel would naturally need to continue that emotional and historical intensity while pushing the story into new political and personal territory.

In my view, The Woman King 2 would work best if it explored the consequences of the events from the first film. Instead of repeating the same conflict structure, it could show how the kingdom changes after internal reforms and external pressures from the Atlantic slave trade and colonial expansion. This would allow the story to feel larger and more historically grounded.

Character development would be essential. If the sequel follows new leaders rising within the Agojie, it could expand the legacy theme—how power is passed on, and what it costs to maintain identity and freedom in a collapsing political landscape. At the same time, returning characters could provide emotional continuity, showing how war and leadership reshape them over time.

The action would still likely be a highlight, and I would expect carefully choreographed battles that maintain the raw, physical intensity of the first film. However, the sequel would benefit most from balancing those sequences with deeper political tension and moral complexity.

Overall, a hypothetical The Woman King 2 could be even stronger than the original if it leans further into historical drama and character-driven storytelling, rather than relying mainly on warfare and spectacle.
