Iran Warns U.S. Military Bases in Gulf Could Become Targets

Iran has issued a new warning regarding the presence of American military forces in the Gulf region, saying U.S. bases could become legitimate targets if tensions continue to escalate.

Speaking at a memorial event in Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam stated that United States military installations across the Gulf are viewed by Tehran as potential targets in the event of a wider conflict. The remarks were delivered during a condolence gathering honoring Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

According to the Iranian envoy, the presence of American military bases throughout the Gulf poses what Tehran considers a direct threat to regional security and stability. He emphasized that if hostilities intensify, these installations could fall within the scope of Iran’s defensive and retaliatory operations.

The ambassador reiterated Iran’s long-standing opposition to foreign military deployments in the Gulf, particularly those belonging to the United States. Iranian officials have frequently argued that the large network of American bases in the region increases tensions and risks drawing Gulf countries into broader geopolitical confrontations.

His comments come at a time of heightened regional instability, with missile strikes, drone attacks, and military operations continuing across multiple parts of the Middle East. Analysts say the statement signals that Tehran may be prepared to expand its list of potential targets beyond Israel to include U.S. military infrastructure across the Gulf if the conflict widens.

The memorial event itself was attended by university faculty and staff who gathered to pay tribute to the late Iranian leader and reflect on his influence on the country’s political and religious landscape. However, the ambassador also used the platform to highlight Iran’s security concerns and warn about the risks associated with the continued presence of foreign military forces in the region.
