U.S. Women’s Hockey Team Declines White House Invite

The U.S. women’s hockey team has declined an invitation from Donald Trump to attend his upcoming State of the Union address, according to a statement released by USA Hockey.

The decision came one day after Trump jokingly told the U.S. men’s hockey team that he would be impeached if he didn’t also invite the women’s squad. Despite the lighthearted remark, the women’s team cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for their absence.

“We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal–winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement,” a USA Hockey spokesperson said. “Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate.”

The spokesperson emphasized that the decision was not political. “They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment,” the statement added.

Fresh off their Olympic gold medal, the team has returned to packed schedules that include school obligations, professional seasons, and recovery following the Games — leaving little room for additional appearances, even at the White House.
