Armor (2024)

“Armor” is a straight-to-VOD action thriller starring A-list talent, most notably Sylvester Stallone in a rare antagonist role. Directed by Justin Routt, the film follows armored truck guards James Brody (Jason Patric) and his son Casey (Josh Wiggins) who find themselves trapped on a bridge after an ambush by a sophisticated team of thieves led by the calculating Rook (Stallone). The goal is to steal a massive, undisclosed shipment of gold.
What Works
The Core Concept: The isolated, high-stakes standoff on a closed bridge has the potential for a tight, claustrophobic thriller.
Jason Patric’s Effort: Patric (as the troubled, secretly drinking father) and Wiggins try their best to invest some character and tension into the father-son dynamic, often outshining the material they’re given.
Intermittent Action: There are a few decent set-pieces and explosions that deliver the kind of action expected from the genre, even if they are infrequent.
Armor is a film where the star power of Stallone and Patric deserved a much better vehicle. It fails to live up to its intriguing premise, relying too heavily on cliché, and is hampered by a highly flawed script and uneven execution. It’s a prime example of a late-career slump for its lead actors. Avoid this one unless you are a Stallone completist who must see all his work.
