Company Producing CV90 IFVs for Ukraine to Help Build 400 ACSV G5s for Netherlands

The company producing CV90 IFVs for Ukraine will help build 400 ACSV G5s for the Netherlands

The Netherlands is accelerating its plan to modernize its armored and air defense forces by selecting the ACSV G5 (Armoured Combat Support Vehicle G5) as the primary platform. According to the latest information from the Dutch Ministry of Defence, the country plans to produce domestically around 400 of these tracked armored vehicles to meet a wide range of military needs, including logistics support, maintenance, command, and integration with short-range air defense systems.

The ACSV G5, designed by the German company FFG (Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft), is a highly modular platform valued for its high payload capacity, strong protection, and suitability for modern threats such as drones (UAVs), loitering munitions, and missiles. It has been chosen as the base for the Skyranger 30 air defense system (with at least 22 units planned for integration), significantly enhancing force protection against aerial attacks—a clear lesson from the battlefield in Ukraine.

To carry out this large-scale production plan, the Netherlands will rely on Van Halteren Defence (also referred to as Van Halteren Technologies), a local company with extensive experience in armored vehicle manufacturing and modernization. Notably, Van Halteren is currently involved in producing the CV90—the infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) developed by BAE Systems Hägglunds (Sweden)—specifically for Ukraine.

Since 2024, the Netherlands has heavily invested in the CV90 program, providing hundreds of millions of euros to establish local production lines. The goal is to manufacture a significant portion (at least 180 units) of CV90s for aid to Ukraine, while also upgrading the Dutch Army’s existing fleet. Van Halteren plays a key role in the supply chain, from components to final assembly, and is expected to further expand its capabilities to support both the CV90 program (for Ukraine, Sweden, Denmark) and the new ACSV G5 initiative.

Choosing Van Halteren for the ACSV G5 project not only leverages existing infrastructure and expertise but also strengthens the Netherlands’ domestic defense industrial base. If fully approved, the ACSV G5 could become the Dutch Army’s primary multi-role support vehicle for the coming decade, gradually replacing older platforms and improving combat readiness within the NATO framework.
