Admiral Kuznetsov (Russia)

Admiral Kuznetsov is the only aircraft carrier of the Russian Navy and one of the most controversial warships in the world. Commissioned in 1991, the vessel operates carrier-based Su-33 and MiG-29K fighter jets, and is equipped with powerful defensive systems as well as long-range anti-ship missiles—an uncommon feature for Western aircraft carriers. However, in recent years, Admiral Kuznetsov has faced repeated technical issues and prolonged repair periods, becoming a symbol not only of Russia’s blue-water naval ambitions but also of the significant challenges Moscow faces in maintaining its maritime power.
