Admiral Kuznetsov is the only aircraft carrier of the Russian Navy and one of the most controversial warships in the world. Commissioned in 1991, the vessel operates carrier-based Su-33 and MiG-29K fighter jets, and is equipped with powerful defensive systems as well as long-range anti-ship missiles—an uncommon feature for Western aircraft carriers.
