Lucian Msamati (Conclave), Merv Lukeba (Skins), Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́ (Dreamers), and Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones) have signed on to star in a British social thriller titled Found.
The film is currently in development with Kalungi Ssebandeke’s Sse So Production (Assata Taught Me) alongside Lucky Sunday Pictures, headed by Henry Hereford (To Leslie), who serves as producer on this film alongside Ssebandeke, who will make his feature directorial debut with the project, working from his original script.
The film’s cast is rounded out by Joseph Arkley (The Capture), Jumayn Hunter (Attack the Block), and Doreene Blackstock (Sex Education).
Set in a Southern English town, the film follows Xavier Prince (Lukeba), a deeply troubled man whose good deed turns into a hellish nightmare when he’s accused of murder.
The synopsis reads: With only circumstantial evidence against him and an unwillingness to admit to a recent relapse for fear of losing access to his young daughter, Xavier must rely on his recently estranged childhood sweetheart, Sadie (Adékọluẹ́jọ́), now studying criminal law, to uncover the truth before the justice system closes in.
“Found is a film touching on everyday characters who are impacted by unconscious biases that have devastating effects on both the individuals and society as a whole,” Ssebandeke said in a statement. “It asks the audience to look into their own hearts and question their prejudices. With plans to collaborate with organisations within the criminal justice system, the film aims to have visceral authenticity at its core.”
Ssebandeke is an artist and filmmaker. His debut play, Assata Taught Me, opened in London in 2017 and starred Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton) as Assata Shakur. The production returns to Riverside Studios in London in May with a new cast. In 2023, he won the JMK Directing Award for his production of Meetings by Mustapha Matura at The Orange Tree Theatre and currently works as an acting tutor at LAMDA.
Hereford is an actor and producer. His credits include Luther: The Fallen Sun, CSI Vegas, Crossbones, To Leslie, Rush of Blood, and Violin Boy.
Behind the camera, Damian Paul Daniel (The Black Cop) is attached as Director of Photography on Found, and Liza Carmel (Luther: The Fallen Sun) serves as Line Producer.
